Sardar kartar singh sarabha



SarabhaIn 20th century, many patriots sacrifice their life for freedom. But only few persons have been born in India who can be called revolutionary in true sense of the word. Kartar Singh’s name comes at the top among these few. Revolution lived in his veins. There he had only one aim of his life, only one desire, only one hope – all that held meaning in his life was revolution. Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha Grewal (Ghadar revolutionary) was born in 1896 in the village of Sarabha , in Ludhiana district of the Punjab in the house of Mangal Singh, a well-to-do farmer (Jutt).He was the only son of his parents. He got a quality to push new passion in the vein of every Indian, about the freedom of our country.. He was an Indian revolutionary who was amongst the most famous accused in the Lahore conspiracy trial. A leading luminary of the Ghadar Party, Kartar Singh was executed at Lahore in November 16, 1915 for his role in the Ghadar Conspiracy in February 1915.

Brief history of Kartar Singh Sarabha:

freedom-725836He was still young when his father died and his grandfather looked after him. He did study in Malwa Khalsa School in Ludhiana. When he was study in 10th class, then he moved to his uncle at Orissa. There he finished his schooling and then joined collage.
It was the year 1910-1911; this was also the time of nationalist movement. It was this political environment that aroused the feeling of patriotism in him. It was then that he decided that he must travel to America .
In 1912 he landed at the port of San Francisco in California and joined many of his compatriots in taking up work in the countryside of California as a farm labourer. There he came face to face with the exploitative attitude of the American farmers and the scorn of the average American worker for Indians He soon realized that slavery was the biggest curse heaved upon a nation.
Kartar Singh soon came in contact with Lala Har Dayal, Pandit Jagat Ram Rihana, Bhai Jawala Singh. They deliberated on the causes of continued enslavement of India . It was felt that a very strong organization was necessary to lead and carry on the battle for liberation.
The Ghadar Party was founded in March 1913 in Astoria in the state of Washington. Kartar Singh joined the party immediately.
In February 1915, just before the planned revolt was to erupt, there was a massive roundup of the Ghadr leaders, following the disclosures made by a police informer, Kirpal, who had surr eptiously gained admittance into the party. Kartar Singh, Jagat Singh of Sursingh, and Harnam Singh Tundilat escaped to Kabul. All three sarabha ahowever came back to Punjab to continue their work. They seized on 2 March 1915 at Wilsonpur, in Shahpur district, where they had gone to incite the troops of the 22nd Cavalry.

The trial of arrested leaders in the Lahore conspiracy cases of 1915-1916 highlighted the role of Kartar Singh Sarabha in the movement. He was sentenced to death on 13 September 1915 and he received the hangman’s noose on 16 November 1915 while he was going to breathe his last breaths he did sing his favorite patriotic song. The statue of Kartar Singh, erected in Bhiwala chonk in Ludhiana city. There yesterday people and politician pay tribute to Kartar Singh Sarabha. He has also been immortalized in his thinking about the freedom, The sacrifice of kartar Singh motivated many youngster to participate in the freedom war of our country.



He wrote a popular song which he would sing and it is said that he died singing it:

"Sewa desh di jinddhiye badhi aukhi
gallan karnia dher sukhalliyan ne,
jinha desh sewa 'ch pair paya
ohna lakh museebtan jhalliyan ne."

Serving ones country is very difficult
It is so easy to talk
Anyone who walked on that path
Must endure millions of calamities.
